Push-Up Structure

How Does a Push-Up Lip Balm Paper Tube Work?

A push-up paper tube uses a movable disc at the bottom of the package. As the balm or deodorant is used, the customer simply pushes the disc upward by hand to raise the product.

The structure is simple, but the fit between the tube, liner, formula and moving disc matters. A well-adjusted push-up tube should hold the product securely while still allowing it to move smoothly during use.

Formula & Filling

Does Your Formula Work With a Push-Up Paper Tube?

Most solid lip balm and deodorant formulas can work well with push-up paper tubes. The main question is usually not simply whether the formula can be used, but how the packaging should be adjusted around it. We mainly look at oiliness, formula firmness, filling conditions and fill size when recommending the liner and push-up fit.

Oiliness

How Oily Is Your Formula?

A more oily formula does not automatically mean that a paper tube cannot be used. It mainly means that liner selection needs more attention.

Firmness

How Firm Is the Finished Balm?

Both softer and firmer solid formulas can be used. Formula firmness mainly affects stability and the resistance needed when pushing the balm upward.

Filling

How Is the Product Filled?

A more oily formula does not automatically mean that a paper tube cannot be used. It mainly means that liner selection needs more attention.

Fill Size

How Much Product Are You Filling?

A more oily formula does not automatically mean that a paper tube cannot be used. It mainly means that liner selection needs more attention.

Not sure? That’s okay. Send us your formula information, fill weight and filling conditions. We can recommend a starting packaging configuration and arrange sample testing when needed.

Product Fit

Customize the Push-Up Tube Around Your Product

Once the basic formula requirements are clear, the tube can be customized around your fill weight, product dimensions, preferred opening style and brand design.

Real Projects

Real Push-Up Lip Balm Packaging Projects

Every finished tube involves more than artwork. Formula, liner, push-disc fit, filling and material choices all affect the final result. Here are a few examples of how those decisions come together.

Sustainable Push-Up Lip Balm Packaging Challenge

Challenge

The brand wanted a more paper-based packaging direction while maintaining good print appearance and reliable push-up performance.

What We Adjusted

The outer paper and liner direction were changed, and the push-disc fit was fine-tuned after testing the actual balm formula.

Result

The final packaging moved into mass production and was later used in an award-winning product project.

Adjusting the Push-Up Fit for a More Oily Balm

Challenge

A more oily balm formula required additional attention to both the liner and the movement of the push disc.

Solution

The fit was adjusted after testing so the disc could move more smoothly while still holding the product in position during use.

Scaling the Push-Up Structure for Deodorant

Challenge

A larger solid stick changes the tube diameter, push-disc area and the force required during use.

Solution

Tube dimensions and push-up fit were adjusted around the actual product size before production.

Manufacturing Know-How

What We Check Before Push-Up Tube Production

Push-Disc Fit

The disc should move when pushed without becoming unnecessarily loose during filling or use.

Tube & Lid Fit

Tube dimensions and moisture condition are controlled to help maintain consistent assembly and opening.

Liner Compatibility

The liner is reviewed together with the formula and filling conditions.

Filling Test

Testing with the actual product can reveal issues that an empty tube sample cannot.

Print Consistency

Color and finishing are checked across components and production batches.

Final Assembly

The tube, liner, push disc and lid are evaluated as one complete packaging system.

Frequently Asked Questions About Push-Up Lip Balm Paper Tubes

Can most lip balm and deodorant formulas use push-up paper tubes?

Most solid lip balm and deodorant formulas can be considered for push-up paper tubes. The liner and push-up fit may need to be adjusted depending on oiliness, firmness and filling conditions.
